[Raphanus sativus-antifungal protein 2] This antifungal protein is a member of the plant defensins isolated from Radish seeds (Terras et al, 1995). The protein is found predominantly in the outer cell layers lining different seed organs and is released preferentially during seed germination after disruption of the seed coat. Rs-AFP2 gene expression has been shown to confer enhanced resistance to the foliar pathogen Alternaria longipes in transgenic tobacco.
