[Rodlet cell]
This cell type is found within the epithelia of tissues of most species of freshwater and marine teleost fish. The cells have a distinctive pear-shaped form and are characterised by the presence of large granules with the rod-like core (for overview see: Manera and Dezfuli, 2004; Reite and Evenson, 2006).
This cell type is thought to play a role in inflammation and innate immunity in fish and also as enteric rodlet cells in aquatic birds (Kamal et al, 2019; Reite and Evensen, 2005; for overview see: Dezfuli et al, 2008, 2016).
