This nonstructural protein is encoded by Rinderpest virus (RPV), a paramyxovirus closely related to the human pathogen Measles virus. The protein is a virulence factor as its deletion causes specific defects in growth and transcription of viral RNAs (Baron and Barrett, 2000). The protein also contributes to immune evasion and has been shown to block the induction of type 1 interferons (Boxer et al, 2009)
