(named after the Rega Institute for Medical Research, University of Leuven, Belgium) This bovine factor belongs to the group of CC-Chemokines and is found at high concentrations in serum (Struyf et al, 2001).
Regakine-1 is a chemoattractant for neutrophils and lymphocytes and has no chemotactic activity on monocytes and eosinophils. Regakine-1 synergizes with the CXC-Chemokines IL8 and GCP-2, and one of the CC-Chemokines, MCP-3.
Regakine-1 also synergises with NAP-2 and the anaphylatoxin C5a in inducing chemotaxis
