[Rabies virus phosphoprotein] This nonstructural protein of Rabies virus plays an essential role in genome replication as the polymerase cofactor through interaction with viral N-protein (Mavrakis et al, 2004).
In addition, the protein plays an important role in immune evasion as a major antagonist of antiviral type 1 interferon signaling (IFN-alpha, IFN-beta). The protein binds to STAT proteins such as STAT1 or STAT2 (Vidy et al, 2005; Brzózka et al, 2006) and prevents these complexes from entering the nucleus (Pasdeloup et al, 2005).
