abbr. REPELL-pMΦ. REPELL is an acronym from repetitive low-dose LPS. This term pertains to a distinct subpopulation of peritoneal tissue-resident macrophages emerging after cell activation in response to repetitive stimulation with low doses of bacterial lipopolysaccharides (Mizobuchi et al, 2020). The cells show high phagocytosis activity and elevated expression of ARG1 [arginase-1], the receptor for gastric inhibitory peptide, GDNF, and FPR2 [formyl peptide receptor-2]. The gene expression profile of these cells is different from that of tissue-resident macrophages described as REPELL-microglia.
