This antimicrobial peptide, IKIPSFFRNILKKVGKEAVSLIAGALKQS, from skin secretions of Pseudhymenochirus merlini (Merlin's clawed frog) is one of a larger group of hymenochirins (Conlon et al, 2013).
The peptide potently inhibits growth of multidrug-resistant clinical isolates of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis, and the Gram-negative bacteria Acinetobacter baumannii and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. The peptide is active against a broad spectrum of Gram-negative bacteria and Gram-positive bacteria and is active also against Candida albicans. The peptide is hemolytic, is active against human umbilical vein endothelial cells
