This antimicrobial protein is called also PMP [Platelet microbicidal protein] or tPMP-1 [thrombin-induced platelet microbicidal protein 1; see also: tPMP]. It is released by rabbit platelets after stimulation with thrombin (Yeaman et al, 1992). Rabbit PMP-1 is translated as a 106 amino acid precursor and is processed to yield variants of 73 and 72 amino acids.
