abbr. PBP (a term with multiple meanings); approved gene symbol PPBP [pro-platelet basic protein]. See: Beta-Thromboglobulin. Other designations are CXCL7 and SCYB7.
Platelet basic protein is the biochemical precursor for a number of protein factors with the activity of cytokines and Chemokines. They arise by proteolytic cleavage and include: CTAP-3 (Connective tissue activating protein-3) known also as LA-PF4 (low affinity platelet factor-4), Beta-Thromboglobulin, and NAP-2 (Neutrophil-activating protein-2).
