This biochemically poorly characterized protein with antimicrobial activities has been isolated from polymorphonuclear leukocytes from peritoneal exudates in rabbits (Hirsch, 1956). It is active especially on Gram-negative enteric bacilli. The nature of the protein is not known but it is different from properdin, lysozyme, and histone proteins (Hirsch, 1960).
