[Peyer's patch M cell]
[membranous cells, microfold cells] These M cells, called also Follicle-associated epithelial cells (abbr. FAE cells) are specialized enterocytes found in the epithelium of the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT), overlying lymphoid follicles (Peyer's patches) (Buda et al, 2005; Gebert et al, 1996). Note: these are not the same M cells that produce the two hormones motilin and ghrelin (see: mucosal M cells).
