[Pelger-Huët cell]
This term pertains to morphologically abnormal neutrophils with dumbbell-shaped bilobed nuclei with a thin filament connecting the lobes (pince nez pattern), a reduced number of nuclear segments, and coarse clumping of the nuclear chromatin. The overall cell size, appearance of cytoplasm and staining quality of granules in PHA cells are similar to normal mature neutrophils (Erice et al, 1999). Cells with Pelger-Huët anomaly have a normal life span without any effect on their phagocytizing and killing functions (Oosterwijk et al, 2003; Borovik et al, 2013). Affected cells may have an impaired ability to migrate through small blood vessels (Johnson et al, 1980).
