Pedal peptide
This neuropeptide of 15 amino acids (PLDSVYGTHGMSGFA) from the sea hare Aplysia californica has been isolated by Lloyd and Connolly (1989). It is synthesized predominantly in the pedal ganglia and is one of the predominant peptides in the nervous system of Aplysia. Pedal peptide does not appear to be a member of any other previously identified invertebrate or vertebrate peptide family.
The peptide has been found also in other mollusks such as Achatina fulica Ferussac (Araki et al, 1995), the terrestrial snail Helix lucorum (Poteryaev et al, 1997), the owl limpet Lottia gigantea (Poteryaev et al, 2010).
