[PBCV-1 Kcv]; This protein (94 amino acids) is encoded by the Paramecium bursaria Chlorella virus 1 (PBCV-1), a member of the Chlorella viruses belonging to the family of Phycodnaviridae. It acts as a viroporin and functions as a potassium-selective ion channel (Plugge et al, 2000; Gazzarini et al, 2002; Moroni et al, 2002). The channel blockers amantadine and barium, but not cesium, inhibit channel conductance and also virus plaque formation, showing that the protein is essential in the virus life cycle (Plugge et al, 2000)
