abbr. PDMF (a term with multiple meanings). This poorly characterised factor of approximately 40 kDa, which does not bind heparin (see also: HBGF) is observed in the serum-free conditioned medium from the highly metastatic human pancreatic cancer cell line SW1990.
PDMF stimulates the migration of the weakly metastatic cell line PANC-1 and induces fibroblast-like morphological changes. Preincubation of PANC-1 cells the factor induces liver metastasis following splenic injection of PANC-1 cells into nude mice. PDMF has no effect on the proliferation of PANC-1 cells.
