abbr. PODs; also known as nuclear dots, PML nuclear bodies (PML-NBs), ND10 domains [nuclear domain 10], nuclear dot 10 bodies, Kreb's bodies (Kr-bodies). These domains are spherical nuclear interchromosomal substructures consisting of multiple cellular proteins that are involved in gene transcription, genomic stability, cell cycle regulation, and apoptosis (Bernardi et al, 2008). The major component of these complexes is PML protein, which is responsible for the proper localization of all other POD-associated proteins (Ishov et al, 1999).
