[Prolactin-like protein H, Placental prolactin-like protein H, PRL-like protein H] abbr. and gene symbol PRLPH or Prl8a4 [prolactin family 8 subfamily A member 4].
This protein is a member of an expanded prolactin family of genes, which encode secreted structurally related hormones that are expressed most prominently in the anterior pituitary, uterus and placenta. These cytokines (see also: PRL-like proteins) are expressed in a gestationally specific pattern and are thought to be involved in the control of maternal-fetal adaptations during different phases of pregnancy (Wiemers et al, 2003).
