[PilT-N terminal domains] These protein domains are named for their homology with the N-terminal domain of Type IV pilins, a group of proteins that mediate the movement of bacteria over surfaces without the use of flagella by forming a coiled-coil with other monomer units to polymerize a pilus fibre (Wall and Kaiser, 1999). However, A functional link that connects the PIN domains with type IV pili has not been demonstrated.
