[p53-induced gene-3] this gene is known also as TP53I3 [tumor protein p53 inducible protein 3]. This protein encodes a quinone oxidoreductase homolog and has been identified by Polyak et al (1997) as one of several genes overexpressed in cells expressing the p53 tumor suppressor protein p53. Expression of PIG3 is induced by p53 but not by p53 mutants unable to induce cell death by apoptosis, suggesting its involvement in cell death mediated by p53.
