abbr. PSA (a term with multiple meanings). A factor found in the conditioned medium of human diploid fibroblasts (Masakado et al (1994). It stimulates the synthesis of PGI2 and 6-keto-PGF1 alpha (a stable PGI2 metabolite) in bovine aortic endothelial cells and human umbilical vein endothelial cells. The partially purified PGI2-stimulatory activity has no effect on thromboxane A2 production by human washed platelets, and has no growth-promoting activity on BAEC. The gene has been cloned by Yamauchi et al (1994) and encodes a protein, also termed prostacyclin stimulating factor
