[proteoglycan M-CSF] A high molecular mass species of M-CSF observed by various authors (Rettenmier and Roussel, 1988; Wong et al, 1987; Manos, 1988). PG-M-CSF is found in the conditioned medium of human MG-63 (osteoblasts) and can be extracted from the bone matrix (Ohtsuki et al, 1993). Suzu et al (1992) have identified the high molecular mass form of M-CSF as a proteoglycan containing the chondroitin sulfate glycosaminoglycan chain.
PG-M-CSF has the properties of a proteoglycan and a growth factor and is active on monocytes and macrophages (Suzu et al, 1992). PG-M-CSF is not a latent form or precursor of 85 kDa M-CSF
