[phosphatidylethanolamine binding protein-4] This human protein has been identified by Wang et al (2004).
PEBP4 is expressed in most human tissues and highly expressed in tumor cells. Expression in tumor cells is further enhanced upon treatment with TNF-alpha. PEBP4 is a lysosomal protein but transferred to the cell membrane after TNF-alpha treatment. Cells overexpressing PEB4 are resistant to cell death by apoptosis induced by TNF-alpha. Downregulation of PEBP4 expression in MCF-7 breast cancer cells sensitizes the cells to apoptosis induced by TNF-alpha.
