[pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A2] This mammalian metalloproteinase (1558 amino acids) is similar to PAPP-A and belongs to a superfamily of metalloproteinases known as metzincins. The protein is being referred to also as Pappalysin-2 (Boldt et al, 2001).
The protein has been identified independently as PAPP-E [Pregnancy-associated plasma protein E] (Farr et al, 2000; Page et al, 2001). Page et al (2001) have reported expression of PAPP-E and splice variants abundantly in placenta and non-pregnant mammary gland with low expression in kidney, foetal brain and pancreas.
