abbr. OGF (a term with multiple meanings). This term refers to a distinct growth factor isolated from bovine pituitaries. It is mitogenic for ovarian granulosa cells and supports angiogenesis. OGF may be identical with aFGF or bFGF or very closely related (see also: FGF) (Gospodarowitcz et al, 1974; Makris et al, 1984).
Note that the term Ovarian growth factor is used also in a more generic sense. For example, some factors such as MIS [Müllerian inhibiting substance] or activins have been described to possess Ovarian growth factor activity.
