Oligodendroglia growth factor

abbr. OGF (a term with multiple meanings). This biochemically uncharacterized factor of 16 kDa is called also GPF-1 [glial promoting factor-1]. It is produced by neuronal cells. The factor selectively stimulates the growth of astroglial cells and oligodendrocytes. In induces the synthesis of myelin proteins in vivo. Molecular mass and isoelectric point distinguish the factor from IGF-1, insulin, EGF, PDGF, aFGF, and bFGF (Giulian et al, 1986, 1991).
