[Ortho-Kung-T-cell] A general abbreviation (followed by a number) for a panel of monoclonal antibodies recognizing a variety of antigens on the cell surface of leukocytes. Kung is the name of the scientist who developed these antibodies. The original series began with OKT1, OKT3, OKT4 and described T-cell differentiation antigens (Kung et al, 1979). OKT6, OKT8, OKT9, and OKT1O have been described by Reinherz et al (1979).
The OKT series of monoclonal antibodies are widely used for the analysis of human peripheral blood T-lymphocytes. OKT designations are still used frequently as synonyms for some cell surface markers recognized by these antibodies (see CD antigens).
