[Naka blood group antigens, Naka blood group determinant, Naka blood group determinants, Naka blood group]
This human blood group polymorphism has been shown to be caused by the CD antigen CD36 expressed on platelets (Yamamoto et al, 1990). A high frequency of the Naka-negative phenotype is seen in populations in Africa, Japan, and other Asian countries. Type 1 deficiencies are characterized by the lack expression of CD36 on monocytes and platelets. Type 2 deficiencies involve lack of CD36 on platelets only.
