[nuclear factor for activated T-cells] This transcription factor (see also: gene expression) is expressed specifically following cell activation of T-cells. It binds to a specific DNA region in the promoter of the IL2 gene (positions between -285 and -254).
NF-AT is a multisubunit transcription factor consisting of at least three DNA-binding polypeptides: a pre-existing phosphoprotein subunit called NFATp and homodimers or heterodimers of fos and jun family proteins (see also: fra-1, fos-related antigen 1).
