[Neuroendocrine regulatory peptide-3] NERP-3 (QQETAAAETETRTHTLTRVNLESPGPERVW with N terminal pyroglutamylation) is a biologically active peptide derived from the neurosecretory protein VGF. Rat NERP-3 corresponds to VGF(180-209). It is secreted by an endocrine cell line. NERP-3 is identified in acid extracts of rat brain and gut as a 30-residue NERP-3 with N-terminal pyroglutamylation. It is more abundant in the brain, including the posterior pituitary, than in the gut.
