[nonspecific cytotoxic cell antimicrobial protein-1; NCC antimicrobial protein-1] NCAMP-1 has been identified originally in channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) nonspecific cytotoxic cells (Evans et al, 2005). Sequence comparisons of this protein indicate similarity to zebrafish (51.2%) histone family member 1-X and (to a lesser extent) to trout histone H1.
NCAMP-1 has been shown to bind GpC and CpG oligodeoxynucleotides and may function as a pattern recognition protein (Kaur et al, 2005; Evans et al, 2005).
Connor et al (2009) have reported that the protein is expressed on nonspecific cytotoxic cell membranes and is found also in granule extracts from these cells
