[neuronal BAK] N-BAK is a neuron-specific isoform of the pro-apoptotic BCL2 family member BAK, generated by neuron-specific splicing, which removes the BH1 and BH2 domains of BAK and creates a protein containing a single BH3 domain (see also: BH3-only proteins) (Sun et al, 2001).
Unlike BAK, which is not expressed in neurons, N-BAK transcripts are expressed only in central and peripheral neurons, but not in other cells. N-BAK protects neonatal sympathetic neurons against cell death by apoptosis
