These short neuropeptides (Gly-Ser-Pro-Met-Phe-Valamide (GSPMFVamide) and Gly-Ala-Pro-Met-Phe-Valamide (GAPMFVamide)) were isolated originally from the bivalve mollusk Mytilus edulis (Hirata et al, 1988; Fujisawa et al, 1991, 1993). Similar peptides have been identified in other molluscan species: the African giant snail Achatina fulica (Ikeda et al, 1992), the clam Meretrix lusoria (Ohtani et al, 1995), the pond snail Lymnaea stagnalis (Li et al, 1996).
