abbr. MEC (a term with multiple meanings). MEC is one of the CC-Chemokines, its closest relative being cutaneous T-cell attracting chemokine (CTACK; CCL27). The factor is known also as SCYA28. The protein has been described also as CCL28 and CCK1.
Strong expression of MEC mRNA is observed in salivary gland and other mucosal sites, including colon, trachea, and mammary gland. MEC is expressed constitutively by epithelial cells. It is not expressed in endothelial, hemolymphoid, or fibroblastic cell lines tested (Pan et al, 2000).
MEC is chemotactic for eosinophils
