Mk potentiator
[megakaryocyte potentiator] abbr. also Meg-Pot. This biochemically uncharacterized murine factor is produced by bone marrow macrophages. It does not support the growth of megakaryocytic colonies by its own (see also: Colony formation assay) but potentiates colony growth of megakaryocytes induced by suboptimal amounts of Meg-CSF (Banu et al, 1990; Jackson et al, 1992; Oon and Williams, 1986; Satoh et al, 1990).
Meg-Pot activity can be provided by purified recombinant IL6 (Williams et al, 1990). It is most likely that there are other factors possessing Meg-Pot activity. Potemka et al (1996) have reported that the acute phase protein
