These cells, referred to simply also as midget cells, are specialized neurons found in primate retinas (Polyak, 1941; Kolb et al, 1992; Dacey, 1994; Dacey, 1993; Dacey and Lee, 1994; Dacey and Peterson, 1992; Kolb and DeKorver, 1991; Kolb and Marsahk, 2003; Rodiek et al, 1985). They project to the parvocellular layers of the lateral geniculate nucleus and are thus called P cells. For another designation see also: tonic ganglion cells.
