Measles virus phosphoprotein |

This protein is encoded in the genome of Measles virus. The C protein appears to be a non-essential protein in some virus strains (Radecke and Billeter, 1996). Viruses that lack C protein expression replicate poorly in certain cell lines, and their growth defect is related to translational inhibition and strong interferon induction (Nakatsu et al, 2006). The protein is required for efficient measles virus replication in human peripheral blood cells (Escoffier et al, 1999). Nishie and Nagata (2015) have reported that C protein facilitates viral transcription to control the formation of nascent nucleocapsid composed of N protein and vRNA in early phases of infection.
