[Membrane-type matrix metalloproteinase-5] Also: MT-MMP-5. The gene is known as MMP-24.
This membrane-bound matrix metalloproteinase has been isolated from a mouse brain cDNA library (Llano et al, 1999). It is organized like the other Membrane-type matrix metalloproteinases and is expressed in a brain-specific manner (Llano et al, 1999; Jaworski, 2000; Bernal et al, 2005). Llano et al (1999) and Pei (1999) have shown that MMP-24 contains a hemopexin domain.
Sekine-Aizawa et al (2001) have localized MT5-MMP to neurons and shown that in the cerebellum, its expression is regulated developmentally and is closely associated with dendritic tree formation of
