[matrix metalloproteinase-10] Alternative designation are Stromelysin-2 (abbr. STMY2, SL-2, ST-2), Transin-2, and EC3.4.24.22. The human gene has been cloned by Sirum and Brinckerhoff (1989). MMP-10 is synthesized as an inactive proform that requires proteolytic processing for activation. Saunders et al (2005) have reported that a number of serine proteases can activate the proform of MMP-10, namely plasma kallikrein, trypsin, neutrophil elastase, cathepsin G, tryptase, and chymase.
Sirum and Brinckerhoff (1989) have reported expression in rheumatoid synovial cells
