MDGF-1
[mammary-derived growth factor-1] This is an acidic (pI = 4.8) N-glycosylated protein of 62 kDa which is isolated from rodent mammary tumors, primary human mammary tumors and human milk. The protein does not appear to be related to any other cytokines according to the known N-terminal sequence of 18 amino acids.
MDGF-1 selectively amplifies the production of collagen type 4 in cultures of mammary cells. It also stimulates the proliferation of normal and malignant rodent and human mammary epithelial cells and may function as an autocrine or paracrine modulator produced by, and acting on, normal and malignant human breast
