MDC-2
[metalloproteinase-like disintegrin-like cysteine-rich protein-2] This protein is a member of the ADAM protein family. It is the same as ADAM22.
Sequence analysis suggests that ADAM11 is not a metalloprotease, since it lacks a catalytic motif (Sagane et al, 1998; Sagane et al, 1999). A zinc-binding motif, which is critical for proteinase activity, is disrupted in the metalloproteinase-like domain of MDC-2. The protein also does not contain the RDG sequence found in other members of the family. mRNA for MDC-2 is expressed highly in the brain.
MDC-2-alpha and MDC-2-beta are splice variants of MDC-2. MDC-2-epsilon
