[mitocryptide-ND4] This peptide, Formyl-MLKLIVPTIMLLPLTWLSKK, is a so-called mitocryptide (see also: cryptides). The peptide is derived from the N-terminus of the parent protein, which is MT-ND4 [NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase chain 4], known also as NADH dehydrogenase 4 or NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase chain 4, a core subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I).
The peptide potently causes cell activation of neutrophils and potently activates the neutrophil NADPH oxidase to release superoxide.
In neutrophils, the peptide promotes shedding of CD62L
