[mitocryptide-ND3] This peptide, Formyl-MNFAL, is a so-called mitocryptide (see also: cryptides). The peptide is derived from the N-terminus of the parent protein, which is MT-ND3 [NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase chain 3], known also as NADH dehydrogenase 3 or NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase chain 3, a core subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I).
The peptide causes cell activation of neutrophils, potently activates the neutrophil NADPH oxidase to release superoxide, and displays receptor preference for formyl peptide receptors FPR1 [formyl peptide receptor-1] over
