[mitocryptide-COX2] This peptide, Formyl-MAHAAQVGLQDATSPIMEELITF, is a so-called mitocryptide (see also: cryptides). The peptide is derived from the N-terminus of the parent protein, which is MT-CO2 [mitochondrially encoded cytochrome c oxidase II], known also as Cytochrome c oxidase subunit 2, a component of the respiratory chain that catalyzes the reduction of oxygen to water. Unlike some other mitocryptides, the peptide does not cause cell activation of neutrophils, does not trigger superoxide production, and does not act as an agonist or antagonist for formyl peptide receptors FPR1 [
