MC-1 factor
This biochemically uncharacterized factor (approximately 23 kDa) is found in the conditioned medium of the human lung cancer cell line, MC-1 (Kuriya et al, 1993). It has been termed also Megakaryocyte-platelet hematopoietic factor (Ogata and Kuriya, 1992).
In a colony formation assay MC-1 protein stimulates colony formation by a variety of hematopoietic precursor cells (CFU-MEG, BFU-E, and CFU-GM) with the strongest stimulating effect seen with CFU-MEG.
