[MAIT-cell]
[mucosal-associated invariant T-cells] MAIT-cells are an evolutionarily conserved T-cell subset (Treiner et al, 2005; Gapin, 2009). Their name refers to the observation that these cells are found in lymphocyte preparations derived from the lamina propria and Peyer's patches of the gut (Treiner et al, 2003). MAIT-cells may represent also up to 1-4 % of total human blood T-cells (Martin et al, 2009). This cell population is being referred to also as mucosal NKT-cells (abbr. mNKT-cells) because they share some properties with invariant NKT-cells (Wingeder and Kronenberg, 2008), or MR1-restricted Valpha19i T-cells
