[microfibril-associated glycoprotein-2] The approved gene symbol is MFAP5 [microfibrillar-associated protein 5]. The gene has been cloned by Gibson et al (1996), who referred to the protein as MP25 (25 kDa). Hatzinikolas and Gibson (1998) have reported the exon structure of the human gene and its similarity to the related MAGP-1, which is confined to two exons encoding a cysteine-rich region. Frankfater et al (2000) have described the organization of MAGP-2. Donovan et al (2013) have shown MAGP2 is a substrate for the proprotein convertase family of endoproteases. Both cleaved and uncleaved MAGP-2 are detected extracellularly.
