abbr. LC-like cells. This cell type has been observed as a population of cells during skin inflammation resembling Langerhans cells. LC-like cells originate from the bone marrow and are only prominent in skin lesions and are thought to be derived from monocytes, which can acquire this phenotype (Ginhoux et al, 2006; Nagao et al, 2012). LC-like cells do not require TGF-beta-1 signaling, which induces the expression of ID2, unlike bona fide resident Langerhans cells.
