Keratinocytes associated transmembrane protein 4

abbr. KCT-4. This protein has been identified originally in primary cultured keratinocytes (Bonkobara et al, 2003). The protein is expressed highly in the human brain and also in other tissues. In adult mouse brain the protein has been localized to neurons but not to glial cells (Yamada et al, 2006).

The protein is identical with EWI-2 and CD81P3 [CD81 partner 3]. In the nomenclature of CD antigens this protein has been given the designation CD316 (which references other names). The approved gene symbol is IGSF8 [immunoglobulin superfamily member 8].
