a subline of the human rhabdomyosarcoma cell line KYM-1 established originally from a neck tumor found in a 9-month-old infant. KYM-1 cells express high numbers of TNF-alpha receptors and the APO-1 antigen. They are highly sensitive towards triggering of cell death by apoptosis by each of the TNF receptors, but resistant to APO-1 stimulation. The cells have been used in the study of bioactivities elicited by TNF are used in bioassays of TNF-alpha and TNF-beta. The cells also respond to murine factors.
