[KSHV basic leucine zipper] This protein is encoded by an open reading frame of KSHV. The protein is being referred to as KSHV orfK8 [Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus orfK8]. An alternative designation is HHV-8 orfK8 [human herpesvirus type 8 orfK8]. The viral protein is encoded by one of the alternately spliced mRNAs encoded by the K8 gene (Sun et al, 1998; Gruffat et al, 1999; Lin et al, 1999; Seaman et al, 1999).
